BASIC INSTINCT 2 Film Review - 3/5/06

Wild and unpredictable a ride this film is as it all unfolds before your eyes. Forget about the first film - This ones it's own beast and you have to treat it like such. It is certainly not as good as the first "Basic Instinct" but still an entertaining thriller in it's own way. I can only presume that the sex and violence for this film will be restored in the unrated and uncensored DVD version as it was certainly lacking on the big screen. Sharon Stone is mighty fine on the eye and silkily and sultry sizzles on the screen in a fine performance ably supported by David Morrissey and backed up by Charlotte Rampling and David Thewlis. The plot twists and turns in such a way you can't be sure who did what and who is lying to who? Some great location shooting in London shows off a panoramic skyline view of the city's buildings from above in a glossy reflection that comes off as sterile, scenes washed out and drained of colour heighten the suspense a good few notches. All in all a fairly entertaining but standard thriller.
